Cancer is the second largest cause of death in developed countries:
  • 11 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer every year
  • There will be an estimated 16 million new cases every year by 2020

Cancer diagnostics

To detect cancer at its earliest and more treatable stage, different types of diagnostic tests are used to:

  • Screen an asymptomatic population for the early detection of cancer
  • Screen at-risk individuals
  • Diagnose a primary cancer and identify the cancer subtype
  • Predict prognosis and direct treatment
  • Monitor treatment efficacy and disease progression or recurrence

Earlier detection and treatment subsequently decreases cancer mortality.
