bioMérieux confirms its commitment to the fight against the AIDS virus in Africa

Marcy l'Etoile, France - August 1st, 2006. A major player in in vitro diagnostics specialized in the fight against infectious diseases, bioMérieux confirms its success in the fight against the AIDS virus in Africa.

After South Africa, where bioMérieux has been the exclusive supplier for the last three years, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the company has just been chosen by Botswana to provide tests for the quantification of HIV viral load. Botswana is one of the African countries currently most affected by the AIDS virus. This contract represents a new success for the bioMérieux NucliSENS® easyMAG™ and NucliSENS EasyQ® platforms.

« bioMérieux confirms with this new contract, following major successes in South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo, that its quantitative technology for the analysis of HIV viral load is the best adapted, both in volume and in ease of use, to the needs of African countries. We are strengthening our strategy for fighting infectious diseases while adapting, at the same time, our products and services for developing countries » stated Benoît Adelus, Executive Vice-President of bioMérieux.

Two sites will be immediately equipped in Gaberone and Francistown. 120,000 tests will be performed within these sites each year.
