Fungal infections: Clear, easy-to-read identification

Incidence of fungal infections – mycosis – is on the rise. Opportunistic infections can be a particular concern for treatment of patients who are immunosuppressed or immunocompromised, such as those in intensive care, cancer patients, HIV/AIDS patients, or transplant patients. These patients are more susceptible and are more likely to develop serious superficial and/or invasive infections. The most commonly found pathogenic yeast species is Candida albicans, yet it is also important to identify other species, some of which are becoming resistant to common antifungal medications and require the use of adapted therapies. Early diagnosis of fungal infections and the implementation of appropriate treatment contribute greatly to improved outcomes for patients.

CHROMID® chromogenic media for detection of fungal infections help you provide rapid, reliable results to clinicians. Specific chromogenic substrates in the agar are hydrolyzed when they comes in contact with the yeast, resulting in specific coloration for clear identification, even with mixed cultures. The intensity and specificity of the colors of CHROMID® make results clear and easy to see.
